Who We Are
Inclusive Child Care
is a child and family focused program which provides support to
families seeking an inclusive child care experience (which includes
family day homes) for their preschool children who have disabilities.
Support to families may include: consultation, resource referral,
program information and funding for additional supports.
Inclusive Child Care
is funded by Edmonton and Area Child and Family Services Region
6.
Who Is Eligible?
Any child from birth
to school age in the Edmonton Region (Region 6) whose parents are
working or attending school and who requires additional
supports to attend and be included in a community child care setting.
What Do We Do?
-
Visit with each
family to discuss care options such as child care programs or
family day home;

Provide parents
with information about community resources and programs;

Determine what
supports the child requires in order to fully participate at
the child care centre or family day home;
-
Facilitate the
Individual Early Childhood Plan which is reviewed annually or
as required;

Monitor, in conjunction
with parents, the implementation of the Individual Early Childhood
Plan;

Review support
needs on a regular basis;

Provide families
and child care staff with consultation, resources and inservice
opportunities; and,

Ensure that agencies
who receive funds, maintain Community Options program requirements
and standards of practice criteria (please call 732-7560 for

What Funding Do We Provide?
Depending on the needs
of the individual child, Inclusive Child Care may fund:

Additional personnel
to enhance ratios at a child care centre;
- Rooms within
a centre with several children needing support may be funded based
on their needs and circumstances;

Workshops and information
for parents and staff;
-
An additional space
in a Family Day Home setting if required to enhance ratios;
and,
-
An additional space
in a child care centre if required to enhance ratios.
Families are encouraged to contact
an Inclusive Child Care Coordinator at 455-1818. Inquiries are also
welcome from specialists, doctors, day care and school personnel,
etc.
